Installing Sedir on your phone

Start here once your access has been set up. At the end of it the app sits on your phone with its own icon and opens with no connection at all.

Before you start

There are no accounts and no passwords in Sedir. Access is attached to the email address you gave me: the first time you open the app a short code arrives at that address, you type it in, and that is the whole of it. You will not be asked again for a long while.

Your records stay inside your phone. They never reach a server, and nobody can read them, me included. There is another side to that: keeping them safe is yours to do. The last step is for that.

Do all of this in your phone's own browser: Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android. It works on a computer too, but anything you enter there will not come across to your phone.

The steps

  1. Open the address on your phone

Type sedir.app/app into the address bar. What comes up first is Cloudflare's sign-in page, not Sedir itself. It is only the door.

  2. Sign in with your email address

Enter your address and press Send me a code. A six-character code arrives within a few minutes, sent by Cloudflare (notify.cloudflare.com). Type it into the field on the page and press Sign in.

The code is short-lived and works once. If it has run out, ask for a new one on the same screen.

  3. Install it before you enter anything

The app is open now, but it is still sitting in a browser tab. Put it on your phone first; start adding your clients only after that.

    iPhone · Safari

Tap the Share icon at the bottom (the square with an arrow), scroll down to Add to Home Screen, then Add at the top right.

    Android · Chrome

Open the menu at the top right, choose Install app or Add to Home screen, and confirm.

    Worth stopping for

On an iPhone, the app on your home screen and the Safari tab are two separate places. Clients, sessions and payments entered in the tab do not appear in the installed app. That is why you install first and type afterwards.

If you have already put things into the tab, nothing has to be lost: in the tab, take the file with ⚙ → Backup → Save backup, then open the installed app and read it back in with ⚙ → Backup → Load backup.

  4. Open it from the home screen icon

This is how you will open Sedir from now on. The first time, it may ask for a code once more. The reason is the one above: this is a separate place. Repeat the same steps, and that will be the last of it.

Once installed, the app opens and works with no connection.

  5. Do your first setup

The order matters, because each step feeds the next. Add your clients first: initials, fee, day, time and how often. Then your expenses; monthly ones like rent, supervision and the accountant repeat on their own. Last, in Calendar, press Build month.

The calendar fills itself in from everyone's usual slot. From then on the daily work is a few taps: open it after a session and mark what happened.

  6. Take a backup, and keep taking them

⚙ → Backup → Save backup hands you a file. The only copy of your records is the one on your phone: there is no server, so if the phone is lost or the browser clears its storage, the records go with it. Emailing the file to yourself or dropping it in cloud storage is enough.

The app mentions it quietly every couple of weeks. It is also how you move to a new phone: install Sedir there and load the file.

If something goes wrong

The code never arrived.
Check Spam or Junk first; searching for cloudflare is the quickest way. Then make sure you used the address you gave on the form, since access is attached to that one only. If it still does not come, write to me and I will check it.
The sign-in page will not accept it, or keeps looping.
That happens in a private tab, or with cookies switched off entirely. Try it in a normal tab. Codes work once, so ask for a fresh one on a second attempt.
I opened the app and everything is empty.
Most likely you are looking at the copy in the browser tab while your records are in the installed app, or the other way round. The save-and-load backup in step three brings the two together. Nothing deletes your data on its own.
It asks me to sign in every time.
It should not; the sign-in is remembered for a long time. If it keeps asking, write to me and I will lengthen the session.
Who can see my records?
Nobody. Sessions, fees and notes stay inside your phone and are never sent anywhere. The only way they leave is as a backup file you save yourself. The sign-in decides who may open the app; it does not see what is inside.
What about client names?
The app will not take them: the name field accepts single letters only, so a full name cannot be entered even by accident.
What happens to my records if I delete the app?
Removing the icon from the home screen takes the records with it. Take a backup before you do. Install it again, load that file, and you carry on where you left off.
I found something broken.
Please write, it genuinely helps: [email protected]. A sentence or two on what you were doing and what happened is plenty.
